Earlier session times
If you have littles that tend to get grumpy past their bedtime, I highly recommend doing your session during the Spring instead of Summer or early Fall. This is because all outdoor sessions get scheduled about an hour before sunset, this is to make sure we get the perfect lighting! (You can read more about why this time is best for lighting here) Which means that in the Summer, sessions can start as late as 8pm sometimes. Since we have just had daylight savings, our days are longer now but not that long yet, which makes Spring session times better for bedtimes.
Mild weather
It's always so nice to enjoy the beautiful weather when Spring comes around. Especially in the Pacific Northwest where we experience so many dreary and rainy days, we need the sunshine! The nice thing about Spring sessions, unlike in Fall or Winter, we are much more likely to get sunny and warm days (but not warm enough to sweat like during the Summer!) This makes this time of year perfect for photos.
All the pretty colors
One of the major reasons why Springtime works so well for family photo sessions is all of the beautiful flowers start blooming! New life is beginning and we can enjoy the gorgeous colors around us.
More session availability
Any photographer will tell you that Fall usually is the busiest time of year for us — for Christmas photos or just to capture the Autumn leaves, everyone is wanting to get their family session done during that time. Personally, my schedule gets filled up very quickly for the Fall months. If you want to stay ahead of the rush, book your session for Springtime!
Bonus: Fall sessions are overrated
Honestly, as a photographer I think Spring sessions are better than Fall ones. During the Fall, the trees only stay pretty for so long until all the leaves drop and we're not as likely to get nice weather. Usually if we get nice weather, it's in early Fall before the leaves even change colors. When the leaves change colors, usually rainy season has started! Don't get me wrong — I love the Fall! But as a photographer I think Spring sessions need more love.
